WHAT THE 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS MEAN FOR EDUCATION

The summer of 2019 is going to be pretty hot; and I am not just talking about the weather here. The general elections have commenced and it is a battle of the supremes. The frequent sensationalization and tabloidization of the politics in the world we live in has made quite an impression on the citizens of India, the voting decision is governed more by sensational sentiments rather than rational and factual critical thinking. And that is one boat, the nation shouldn’t be a part of but sadly finds itself pedalling through the oceans of media debates, jingoistic speeches and pools of propaganda.

The issues are large and there are a huge many things that could be subjected to a necessary albeit heated debate. But, the only sane way to go about them is pluck them one by one, nobody ever retained their sanctity by keeping each foot in different sails. Education is something that is worth of monumental investments but the returns won’t yield until years at end. And this is probably why education is mostly overlooked by the centre and is done majorly to cater to a lip service rather than a true, honest and calculated investment into the future of the nation.

But let’s talk facts here.

Education is essentially the future of the nation. In terms of developmental, industrial aspects as well social, moral and intellectual aspects. More education means; more doctors, more lawyers, more engineers, more architects, more artists, more entrepreneurs and essentially a very communally rich society. But the true fact is also that there is a harsh divide when it comes to education in India. The Government institutions and the private institutions. The government institutions have a lazy temperament to education but have nominal costs of education and the table flips itself on the other side of the spectrum with rising prices and the quality of education. It is an unfair reality.

But, how do elections and politicians effect this cause?

These general elections provide good opportunity for the citizens of our nation to analyze the true depths of what the government has done over the years. Whether the quality of education has improved? Whether the infrastructure has improved? Whether the cost has improved or not. The government is pivotal to make a difference in terms of how much budget it allots to education.

The temperament of a human being is deemed wise by the virtue of his patience. Education is a field where the investment demands an unparalleled supply of patience. While other things may come and go in the small and large scheme of things, education shall remain constant especially in a country where the illiteracy rates are abnormally high and the population is increasing by the minute. While voting the weightage to be education may or may not be a biased perspective but it is strongly recommended that a great nation was never build without an array of great education and literacy.

With new avenues bursting every now and then, initiatives that truly want to make a change in the field of education and make the future prosper with intellect, this is the time.

Vote. And Vote Wisely :)
